Winter Crappie Fishing In Oklahoma

Winter crappie fishing in Oklahoma can be fun in this season. Now brush pile or structure fishing is standard fishing at all times of the year. This time in the winter the crappie will get on the brush pile and sit right there. We are going to go over the depth to be fishing at. Using electronics to be helpful to find the right depth as well as locating the fish. We will be using a method called ‘ Double Dipping ‘ to catch the fish. The color of the water, murky verses clear, makes a difference in fishing methods as well as the color of the and white crappie

Winter Crappie Fishing In Oklahoma

In the winter time we start out looking for crappie in 20ft shallow water. We at times can find the crappie as deep as 30ft to 35ft too. With brush pile fishing we just have to find the right depth of water. Oologah lake is known foe being really great for winter time fishing. This is the place to be for winter crappie fishing in Oklahoma.

Brush pile fishing means mostly the brush piles are put in by man-made. Permission brush has to be asked to put in the brush piles. Some lakes have cor day that they put in the brush piles. Different times in a year, we will find the crappie on these brush piles. Also, depending on the time of the year effects the depth of the brush piles. The depth can be 20ft on one lake and 60ft on another. Now the crappie will most likely not be in 60ft deep. The depth maybe 30ft deep but the top of the brush pile may only be 17ft.Black crappie

Finding The Right Depth And Using The Right Rigging

By using electronics we will be able to find the brush pile and also the crappie on top of it. Winter crappie fishing in Oklahoma we find the crappie in deeper waters. Probably around 20ft to 30ft is the depth we are going to find the crappie on top of the brush pile.

We find using two jigs on our line to be effective in the winter time. In winter crappie fishing in Oklahoma we call it ‘ Double Dipping ‘. We take a rod in each hand and have two jigs per pole. We can use an 8 ounce, depending on the water color, to a 16 ounce weedless jig head. Now we fish it on top of the brush pile. This jig keeps us free most of the time. We use our electronics to set our jigs on top of the brush pile    Get this nowZebco CRFUL102LA.NS4 Zebco Crappie Fighter Spinning Combo, 4.3: 1 Gear Ratio, 10′ Length, 2Piece, 4-8 lb Line Rate, Ambidextrous

The rod can be a 10 ft or a 7ft. For deeper depth we use the 7ft rod because we will be reeling more. For shallower depth we use a 10ft rod to pull the fish right into the boat. If you would like to read up on reviews for best 5 crappie spinning rod and reel combos in 2020 click this link

Fishing The Brush Pile

When fishing the brush pile, we use our electronics to put the bottom jig right at the top of it. We may have to drop it 1ft lower if the crappie is not sitting on the top of the brush pile. We may find bigger crappie by going deeper into the brush pile. With as little as 1ft to 1. 1/2ft down into the brush pile.

A bit of wind helps to control the boat easier. When we are going along and find a brush pile, it’s a good idea to mark the brush pile with a bouy marker. We place the bouy marker up wind 10ft or more so we do not get the boat or trolley motor into the bouy marker.

After we find the brush pile, we use the electronics to put the weedless jig right on top of the brush pile. Now we may catch several crappie and think there is no more. This is where we drop the bottom weedless jig 1ft down into the brush pile to catch more crappie sitting in the brush.

Sometimes running two weedless jigs into the brush pile will snag, we can take off one of the jigs. When we get snagged on the brush pile we can straighten our hook out. That’s important in the winter time because our fingers do not work right due to the cold temperatures.crappie fishing

Using The Right Fishing Line

We use 20pd braid, 6pd diameter of what would be. Its small around but strong This is good to use in murky waters like lake Oologah. In clear waters, like lake Tenkiller, and you want to keep the braid on we can tie a fluorocarbon leader, about 6 to 8in leader. Or we can spool the line with mono filament or fluorocarbon. Find this now on AmazonCRFUL702LA.NS4 Zebco/Quantum, Crappie Fighter Spinning Combo, 4.3: 1 Gear Ratio, 1 Bearing, 7′ 2pc Rod, 4-8 lb Line Rate, Ambidextrous

The crappie will see the fishing line We may have to go to a smaller jig. In clear waters the crappie are more sensitive to the jig, fishing line, and to the boats. We may have to change the braid or mono filament from 6pd to 4pd. Depending on the color of the water, murky, we go with the color’s pumpkin and chartreuse, pink, orange and black and chartreuse weedless jig. In clear waters we go with pearl and pepper flake and blue and white color’s on the weedless jig.

In the winter time on lake Oologah the crappie may have no color because they are down deeper where the water is murky. On lake Tenkiller and lake Fort Gibson the crappie has a lot of nice color’s to them because the water color is clear. So the color of the water effects the color’s on the crappie.

We Should Not Shy Away From Fishing In The Winter Time

Just because it’s the cold winter we should not let that keep us from fishing. With the right equipment, we can bundle up and go fishing. There are some beautiful lakes to go fishing in Oklahoma. It sounds fairly easy to go fishing in the winter. Fishing is an exciting sport.

Scoping Out The Delta Striped Bass

Have you ever wondered where to find the striped bass? Here we look at the Delta Striped Bass locations and where to find them. The water conditions and the timings as well. We will be looking for those water conditions to find that bigger striped bass. There are some baits that work well in these conditions too. We will be reading on getting that bigger striped bass. Fishing for the striped bass is fun.

The Delta Striped Bass Will Be Coming From The Sacramento Riverstriped bass

The delta striped bass are always changing locations. We will not find them in the same spot we fished the day before

The delta striped bass start showing up around fall. In the late September, it could be earlier, the striped bass will be sh.owing up. The common months, October, November and December we can expect them. We want to be using casting lures.

The striped bass will be coming in through our Delta way, through bays, through Grizzly, and through the mothball fleet. They will go into the feather of the Moketumme. Here is where the Delta Striped Bass are making their way into all the rivers. If we are close to these rivers or on the river we have better odds to catch the Bigger striped bass.

To Catch The Bigger Striped Bass

To catch the Bigger striped bass we want to be throwing Glide baits and Big Water Walking baits. We look for Flooded Ponds or Big Shallow Flats. The Shallow Flats can has grass on it or be a sandbar or an hard bottom shoal. We want to set our boat in 4 or 5 feet and then cast up to a foot. Now we will find those Bigger striped bass eating in the shallow and that 3 to 4 feet of water they are sitting in it. This is where the Bigger striped bass prefer to eat. We will have a strong chance of catching that Bigger Delta Striped Bass by hitting the zone in the shallow waters. There is a strong possibly there is a 30 or 40 pound fish sitting there.

Flooded Ponds And Shallow FlatsDelta striped bass

Flooded Ponds are that the levees broke down and the water gets in there and the depth is 4 or 5 feet or lass of water. Any area like this along the main Sacramento river or outlets mentioned are going to have the Bigger striped bass.

The Bigger striped bass is not going to be chasing bait around. When the fish are in these shallow areas they look to eat Squafish, bass, bluegills, craw fish. Flooded ponds are a great place to fish for that Bigger striped bass.

As the tide rushes into these Flooded ponds, it comes over a shallow area. The striped bass is always looking into the current. When the water flows into the Flooded ponds, they will be just past the inside with the current on their face looking to feed. This is where we have to cast up to them. The sames go with the tide going out and we have a small opening going into the Flooded pond, we want to cast up to the small opening on the high side of it where the water current in their face. We only need to do is 10 feet casts to get the Bigger striped bass.

Shallow Flats do not need to be in a Flooded pond. It can be a place along the shoreline. It maybe a hundred feet evenly 3 or 4 feet depth where these Bigger striped bass will pull up on the same spots and feed often.

The Medium Striped Bass

Again the striped bass are not going to be in the same spot the next day. Medium striped bass are in the range of 8 to 12 pounds. Low light hours is going to be the best fishing for the medium striped bass. We will find them at Flooded ponds, Shallow flats, flooded islands and island points. Any sort of current break, coming around a corner and see a Big back Eddy back it’s shallow, this is an excellent spot.

Where we see the white birds diving on bait, This is where we find the small striped bass are fed on by the medium striped bass. The farther we go inland, the medium or Bigger striped bass are feeding on the smaller striped bass. The chances of catching the Bigger striped bass go down the farther away we get from the primary rivers

Knowing Where To Locate The Striped Bass During The Seasonsstriped bass and more

As winter approaches and the temperatures go down to 50 degrees, the shad will start to die off and we also will see fewer birds. We will see the medium striped bass in with the Bigger striped bass.

Along the Delta, pumps will be running in the water into the farm fields and the water temperatures are in the high 40s too low 50s. This is a target area to be fishing the striped bass. A good bait to use around pumps are the Jerky bait or the Flute bait.

When the middle of winter with water temperatures are in the 40s, it is hard to catch the Delta striped bass. Now late February, early March the striped bass are going to start moving around and warm up and start to feed up for spawning. Which will be in late march to April and May.

The striped bass will now be in the Shallow hard flat rock or Shoals. The Shoals can be from 3 to 8 feet. We can use Deep diving Jerk bait or still use a Swim bait for the striped bass. The main river along these Shoal areas is where the striped bass will be found spawning.

Early March to late February we can still fish the Flooded ponds and Flats with grass for those Bigger striped bass. When the spawning kicks in, the Bigger striped bass are still feeding in these areas. Look for back Eddies where the water is spinning around in a circle. We can use a big swimbait, a Deep diving Jerk bait and a Flutter spoon in these areas.

In the summertime comes there will be striped bass that go up the river and striped bass that go into the bay.

Prime time is first thing in through morning, later in the evening, a rainy heavy overcast or a Good flowing current. Now if any of these conditions lack anything, then the striped bass may not be found there. There maybe anglers that was fishing in some spots the day before and the fish might be there, we can adjust to the conditions. In deep waters we can use a Flutter spoon and let it fall to the bottom and rip it up then repeat.

What Have We Learned

We have gone over quite a few things. We learned the striped bass do not stay in the same spot. The Delta bass is found in the Sacramento River. Now the places we find the striped bass along the Delta is the Flooded ponds and the Shallow flats. Our prime time to fish is first thing in the morning, later in the morning, a rainy heavy overcast day and a good flowing current. Where to find that Bigger striped bass and also some good baits to use when fishing.

It’s Time For Summer Bass Fishing Tactics

It’s summer and this is a great time to be fishing. We are going to look into the water temperature and see if it affects the fishes behavior. At this time of year the fish divide into two groups which we will be going over. Along with four baits for each groups of fish. So where do we find the fish in the water? There s a lot of summer bass fishing tactics. Let’s go find out.lake-fishing

Where Do, The Fish Find The Oxygen In The Heat

At summer it is Hot. Now expect to see the water temperature at 95 degrees at some places. This is Hot, Hot for the bass. When the temperature is above 85 degrees and higher, the water loses the ability to hold oxygen for the bass to breathe. There are more summer bass fishing tactics.

The bass will go looking for oxygen and the fish will find it going deep, find current or find grass. Now deep water is cooler to hold oxygen better, grass creates oxygen and current that stirs up the water that creates oxygen. Things that create current are wind, channels of water and boat traffic. Boat traffic has an impact and we do not think about, that’s creates more oxygen.

These are the places where the bass are going to be at the oxygen levels. And when the water temperatures is 85 degrees and above and where we loo for the bass.

The Two Groups Of Bass In The Summer

In the summer the bass go into two groups. The fish become predictable and consistent all the way into fall. Try to find their pattern. Changing weather only changes them for a couple of days. During the summer the schools of bass are smaller. There is the occasionally large bass. All the bass are mixed in together into the fall.

Our two groups of bass are the bass that went shallow or cover and the bass that went offshore or outside structures. Let’s read some more summer bass fishing tactics.

The bass on the offshore or outside structures follow the secondary points to open water. They may not be deep and they move to 2-10 feet shallows. They can go deep 20-50 feet deep as well. Now these fish are rock oriented and are easy targets. We will find them near rocks. The rock structures can be shallow or deep.

We will also find them in current. They feed off the of the full size bait fish in the current near rock. The bass are out in the face of the structures along the current or without the current.

The bass that stayed shallow after the spawning become covered oriented. Here is the baits they are feeding on is blue gill, crawdads, and small bait fish. They will be up their feeding for the summer. The Fisher Women

Finding The Best Spot To Be Fishing

The bass are ambush feeders and get right on the cover. They sit right up against something to feed in the shallow waters. If we, are grass fishing, the thickest grass is where we want to be fishing.

For the biggest bass we want the perfect cover with access to deeper waters in a handful spots. That’s a good summer bass fishing tactics These places are where we are going to find the bigger fish. This is where they hang out and can still swim to deeper waters. The bigger bass most of the time will be where they can dive into deeper waters.

The bass around cover as it gets Hotter will be around shade. As the sun rises and the shade becomes less, they will pull up tight against the cover, grass. The time of day when their is more shade, The bass will pull out from the cover. The bass are predictable. When the sun is high, they will be in cover.

Those bass around docks, we look for the shaded spots. That is where the bass will be.

If we, are at a lake where the only shallow cover is for the bass to get underneath the pilings or overhanging cover when it gets Hot and the sun is high the bass will retreat to the shadows. A lake can become very small when we know the bass are in the shadows. Also, it makes it easier to fish for the bigger bass knowing where they are sitting at.

Bait’s For The Offshore Or Structure Group Of Bass

We pick out our baits by what we are fishing. We are fishing inside the cover, shallow or in the structure. We look for what is the body of water. Here we have four good bait’s to use.

  •       Square Bill; The Square Bill may or may not have a rattler. We want to pick out a shiny, bright, bold Square Bill. This is so it can be seen and attract the bass. On more information on Square Bill baits, visit my article.
  •       Deep Crank; We choose bold colors on the Deep Crank. The Deep Crank covers a lot of water and catch a lot of bass. The Deep Crank will help determine what types of bass are in the water and keep moving until we find the school of bass. There  is some great deep crank baits at

Shaky Head Rig

  •         Shakey Head Worm; We use the Shakey Head Worm to slow down our fishing. A 3/16 or 1/4 ounce Shakey Head Worm. If we, are in heavy current we go heavier. Use the 6-7 inch worm. Bold colors, black-blue, black red, junebug will give us a strong reaction. Now try this summer bass fishing tactics. Now up size a Shakey Head Worm to a JigFlipping Jig
  •       Jig; A standard Jig 1/2 to 3/4 ounce Jig. Now use a Beaver Trailer. If we, want to get aggressive with the Jig, we can use a Ragebug or the new Spicy Beaver that has some kick and action. In a lot of grass we go with the Flipping Jig Head. Again if we go aggressive we can use the Pitching Jig Head. Now use a football Jig Head if we are just pulling over rock. The colors we go with are natural, green pumpkin, or a red trailer.

These are the four baits for the offshore water conditions. For more information on some of these jigs, visit my article.

Bait’s For The Shallow or Cover Group Of Bass

In the summer we can catch bass on almost any bait. Here are some summer bass fishing tactics that will draw out the bigger bass among est the smaller bass.frog bait

  •       Frog; The frog bait allows us to get over the top of the grass. Back underneath the trees and under docks. The frog bait works well in early and late low light. The frog also works well when the sun is high and the bass are under cover. There is great selections at…

For more information on Frog fishing visit my article.

  •       Heavy Punching Rig. Anywhere between an ounce to two ounces depending on how heavy the cover is with a wide gap hook. We will want to use a creature bait on the hook. We use the Heavy Punching Rig when the frog does not draw out the bass. We wait until the heat of the day and punch for them. We look for the thickest or darkest cover under is where the darkest shadow can be found. When fishing docks, look for the darkest places to fish. Just as we fish around trees, look for the darkest place.soft swimbait
  •       Swim Jig; When fishing a Swim Jig, we can go lighter with the weight and fish it like a Spinner Bait. Just fish it around the edges of cover. Now also fish the Swim Jig heavier 3/4 ounce and a larger profile. We fish this in the thickest part of the grass, just yanking the Swim Bait through the grass. The heavier Swim Bait draws aggressive strikes. There is a great selection in swim baits at
  •       Sinko; If we, are fishing clear waters we go with a 5 inch Sinko. And if we are fishing murky waters or bigger bass we go with a 7 inch Sinko.

These are the four baits for the shallow water conditions

Summer Bass Fishing Tactics

Now we adapt to the conditions of the lake we are fishing on. We may have to downsize.

By running these baits we have a greater chance of catching a bigger bass.

With it being summer we need to be sure we take care of ourselves out their fishing as well.

We have gone over the water temperatures and where to find the fish where the oxygen is. The places where to fish at. And the baits to catch that bigger bass that comes along. All of the baits will work for the smaller bass too.               We can find the baits mentioned above at Amazon.

I hope we are able to take away some information here.

Ice Fishing Tips For Northern Pike

There is some great information here. We will read about the rigs with the hook and line. The different types of bait we can use. And the depth of our line. Now we can use a short or long rod or the tip-ups to catch our pike. We will find much ice fishing tips for Northern Pike throughout the article. Our location is important too, we need to know where to locate the Northern Pike. It’s important to carry our tools with and know how to handle the pike too. And we can bring along our family and friends too.

The Hook And Line Rigs

We hook the bait so it hangs horizontal….. That is the Zero Fluoro Rig. The zero Luoro rig has the hooks come together and not get caught on the bottom of the ice when pulling the fish up.

Now to use Dacron line, a heavy line 40lb to 60lb test. The heaver line rolls off the spool easier. The heavier line is easier on the hands. Use heavy-duty leaders either heavy flora carbon or steel or titanium and a treble hook. Make sure our components are heavy-duty, If we use lighter leader and catch a large pike, it is going to break the components.

Another way to hook our bait is a single hook in the middle of the back and a treble hook in the nose. A 75% of the fish come on the nose hook. This is a good ice fishing tips for Northern pike is the single hook does not get hooked on the ice when reeling up the fish.

Here we run our hook is just a single treble hook on a heavy flora carbon leader with a rubber core.

The best bait for catching Norhtern Pike, is dead bait from a 1ft to 5ft off the bottom The dead smell attracts the fish to find the bait.

Here are the types of bait fish. Cisco, Huron, blue gill, sardines, mackerels. Look for only bait that dissipates a scent and silver shining.

As a rule of thumb we look at the bigger bodies of water that have open water cold bait fish, we will find big pike. At the big lakes we will find big shallow bay, we will find Norhtern Pike. We have to remember the pikes are rolling through these spots. The pike roam the weed lines and we put the tip-ups, the pike are following a path.

Some tip-ups will be more hot than others. Be sure to carry the necessary tools on us so we have them at the time of the tip-ups. Here is some good ice fishing tips for Northen Pike. At a great big flat feeders base, the pike transition over the deep water that’s adjacent to it and coming to the big flats to feed on.

These flats can have Cisco, white fish and perch. We set are tip-ups at places like these. We wait for the pike to come in and back out. This is Precambrian Shield lake style when we go for Northern Pike is trying to get into these back shallow bays and waiting. Primary structure of any long bar or reef in the lake has good odds of catching a Northern Pike.

With the fish roaming along the edge of reefs and points, there will be one or two holes that will be hot. Pike are aggressive fish. Now to sit for an hour and nothing, then two pop up at the same time. Then all of a sudden some weather rolls in, and things change. It is in these small window and things get intense, with all the tip-ups popping up.

The Tip-Ups Set Ups And The Northern Pike

When the pike runs out too much line, it gives the pike time to run up into the weeds.

There are times we may think we lost the fish a few seconds after setting the hook. And it turns out the fish turns and will bolt right at the hole. And they come charging and they feel like they just popped off the line. Stick with them and pull back as fast and hard as you can and we will catch up to the pike.

We don’t set the hook on the circle hooks. We just ease right into them and it will set itself. Now to use a long rod, here is the ice fishing tips for Northern pike, it does not have to be a tip-up.

When the Pike is thrashing at the hole, just let the pike do it or let the pike go on another run. DO NOT pick the pike out of the water using the line, the pike may barely be hooked.

When targeting, Big Pike we use the Big Tip-Up. They have Big arbors and we can put a lot of line on it. Some of these pikes are going to run real hard and fast. If we are working on one tip-up and there is another flag on another tip-up, it is going to take time before we get to it. It helps to have a lot of line on the tip-up. An ice fishing tips for Northern Pike is when checking on the tip-up, it helps to pull on the line up and let it go back down. The flag may pop up when we walk away.

Now to use wind tip-ups or Straight bar tip-ups or thermal cover tip-ups.

Ice Fishing Tips For Northern Pike

Now to use a cheap rubber band on our line to mark our depth of the line we are dropping. Now to use a depth finder weight instead. In 7ft to 13ft of water, we want to be at 2ft to 6ft off the bottom or right underneath the ice.

Here is an ice fishing tips for Northen Pike is to slide the tip-up into a PVC pipe for storage and keep them tangle free.

At the end of the season we can take our flora carbon leader, that is coiled up into a mess, and hook the hook on something. Now put tension on the line and take a rubber core and run it back and forth. It will knock out the coils.

It is key when fishing shallow waters and we have to run to the flag but when we reach a 10yd radius we slow down and sneak in. Walk in quiet. When we pound our feet, on the snow or ice, we spook the fish under the ice and the pike will fighter run hard with the bait or drop it completely. The large fish will more than likely to drop the bait and not hook it.

Protect the hands before the tip-up goes off. We don not want to show up at the tip-up with cold hands. It is a MUST that we be prepared for the elements when ice fishing.

Invite The Family And Friends

One neat thing about tip-up ice fishing for pike, we can go as a group with family and friends. There is idle time and we get together and enjoy it as a whole. Bring the kids. Make a game to get to the tip-ups. Bust out the BBQ and cook up some brawts and fish. Play some jokes. Have a snow ball fight. It can be a family affair.

Enjoying The Adventure

We take care of the Northern Pike on a catch and release. Keep the pike in the water when taking out the hook. Only take the pike out to measure him and to take a picture and get the pike back into the water to release. If the pike is out to long, his eyes will freeze and he will die. Also, holds the pike horizontal to lift and only turn vertical to take a quick picture or measure.

We have gone over the leaders, rigs and line. We learned about bait fish. Also, locations to fish. And tip-ups.

Fly Fishing For Bass Tips And Then Some

Fly fishing for bass is exciting and full of action. There are people that fish for bass using plastics worms, top water lures and hard bait. Fly fishing is similar. This fly-fishing for bass tips is that’s all about figuring out what the bass are feeding on. Fly fishing is where we figure out what flies the bass are feeding on. The flies imitate the food sources for bass and we present them naturally as possible. This can be a frog or a mouse on the surface, to flies that imitate bait fish. The key is to get the fly near a bass and make it look like something alive.Fly Fishing

Getting Started

  •      In getting started we just need an inexpensive rod and reel and some basic flies and we are good to go. For the reel we do not need an expensive reel. The reel is mainly used for storing the line. We do not have to worry about fly selection. When fishing for small mouth and large mouth bass, we can use an eight weight rod. The heavier line is needed with bigger flies and hair bugs, big poppers and hairy streamers. If you are only fishing for small mouth bass, we can use a six or seven weight rod nine feet. Smaller flies for smaller fish, larger flies for larger fish.
  •      A neat fly-fishing for bass tips is when we thread the line on the rod, just fold the line where it has a loop. When we put it through the guide and it happens to slip out it does not go any farther due to the loop in the line. Another fly-fishing for bass tips is when we put on our leader and the line is curly cued, we can straighten out the line by firmly holding on to each end of the line and stretching the line. Where, there is still curly cue we repeat this process.

Area’s To Fish

  •      We will do good fishing on a shoal in the lake that is hallowed right out. This is the type of structures we need to look for in a lake: Structures we look for are docks, fallen logs, submerged humps, rock piles’ lily pads, saddles between islands. Now we work the different types of structures based on the time of the day, water temperature, time of year, where we think the fish are going to be.
  •      We can start with surface flies to find out where the fish are. Anywhere a fish can ambush their prey is where we want to be. Now when we move from the surface flies we can can go to a subsurface fly. The standard color is yellow, red, subsurface fly is fine.Fly Fishing Tackle

Bass Fishing Is A Great Way To Get Started In Fly Fishing

  •      Bass fishing is a great way to get started in fly-fishing, the action is all on the surface. Bass are often aggressive and will attack anything that looks alive
  •      A great fly-fishing for bass tips are we consider two factors; whether the bass can be caught below the surface or on the surface. We can find this out by looking at what the bass are hunting for in terms of forage. The other is again is impact of weather, time of day and time of year. We make two presentations, either on the surface or below the surface,
  •      Bass flies are made to copy the size, color and actions of bait fish. The difference is flies are made of feathers, fur, and synthetics. Lures are usually made from plastic and wood. The same applies to other food sources like crayfish, mice and frogs.

Small Mouth Bass Flies

  •      When fishing for small mouth bass, we should have some type of crayfish invitation that’s weighted. It gets down near the bottom and you fish it with twitches or just letting it fall to the bottom.
  •      A black wooly bugger is also popular It imitates a hellgramite, which they hit on it in streams very heavily.
  •      The trout dry fly is like a “big stone flight” is another fly for small mouth bass. Some big trout sized flies work.
  •      The white sneaky Pete is a surface fly. And a popping bug with a face that pops and will make some noise in the water.Fly Fisherman

Large Mouth Bass Flies

  •      The large mouth bass are predators and will eat almost anything. With having a large mouth they can inhale some pretty large flies.
  •      We can use a streamer like the sun fish fly. Sun fish are popular for the large mouth bass and they will goes after it.
  •      A twisty tail with lead eyes is a lure. The tradition cork popper is one fun way to catch a large mouth bass. Mornings and evenings is when the large mouth bass are near the surface and in shallow water goes after the cork popper.
  •      The deer hair frog fly is also popular with the large mouth bass. And there is the mouse imitation.

Windy Conditions

  •      Now these are some good fly-fishing for bass tips. In windy conditions there are a few casts we can do. With a wind coming directly at us we can make a low angle cast and get below the wind. And we can deliver the fly to the target. Another option is to make a high angle back cast and drive the fly down through the wind down to the water.
  •      With the wind coming at us our non casting shoulder we can again cast below the wind. Or we can compensate, for the non casting shoulder, by casting more to the right or left to hit the target.
  •      With a wind coming to our backs can be harder. Male a low angle back cast and get the line under the wind. Make sure the line goes out nice and straight. Then make a higher angle forward cast. The cast kinda looks like oval. We make a low back cast bringing the rod tip up, then a high forward cast to hit that fly at our target.
  •      The wind blowing at our cast shoulder is the hardest wind of all. The fly can hook into our skin. One way is to take the rod tip and angling it over the opposite shoulder. Make a high angle cast and get the line off our shoulder. Another option is to cast with the other arm. Practice occasionally with our opposite arm. The simplest way is to turn our back to the wind and make a back cast hitting the target.Rod And Tackle

Fly Fishing For Bass Tips

  •      A very important fly-fishing for bass tips is when we cast out we immediately get the slack out of our line. In fly-fishing the line propels the fly. We do not need to make long casts to catch a bass on a fly. Simple casts of 20 to 30 feet is all that is needed.
  •      Cray fish is bass popular bait When fishing a cray fish bait, we throw it beyond where we think the fish is. Then strip it back and let it fall and watch the tip of the floating line.
  •      We want to wait one second when the fish hits the line before we set it because we want the fish to take the bait into his mouth. If we strike to fast, we will pull the hook right out of his mouth.
  •      When hooking a large bass, we need to reel the fish in.
  •      Our part to fly-fishing is to animate the fly so it looks appealing and something the bass wants to eat. Animating and retrieving a bass fish is the fun part of fly-fishing.
  •      The best way to give action to the fly is to keep our rod tip low and give it all the action by stripping the line at various speeds. WE may want to twitch the rod tip but DO NOT. It creates problems such as it throws slack into our line and we will miss strikes and will not be prepared for the next cast. With a sinking line, we want to do long slow strips, just crawl it so the fly goes steady or other times we might want to give it short little wraps. Or we can rip the line back in. An intermediate line is a sinking line.

Some Flathead Catfish Fishing Tips

Flathead catfish seems to be popular. We are going to learn about baits. Also, several rigging. Here is a Flathead catfish fishing tips that people don’t think about. Time plays a role too. How long we leave the line in the water matters. The average length of time is 30 minutes. Then we reel in and check the bait, then recast it. Speaking of time, pre-tying the leaders will save time.

The Double Hook Rig

  •      A double hook rig is a leader line and two off set hooks. We snail knot both hooks. Now start with the first hook being about 1 foot from the swivel. Our 2nd hook is about 2-3 inches from the first hook. The hook will end up being 6 inches apart after we snail knot it.
  •      We are going for big fish so we are going to use big bait. We take a skip jack and fillet one side to about halfway down and cut the rest off. The reasoning being is we cut into a bit of the backbone and that’s where the blood seems to congregate. What a great Flathead catfish fishing tips.
  •      We are careful how we rig the bait because we want to keep both hooks really exposed. The first hook pit in one nostril and out the other nostril. Now we see where the other hook lays. Take the second hook and barely sticks through the skin by the backbone. Make sure the hook is exposed. Pull the hook through by the eyelet.

This Is Rigged As A Caroline Rig And How To Fish Itcarolina rig

  •      It’s rigged on a Caroline Rig. If the bottom is not rocky, we can use a No Roll weight. Cast the line out and slowly let it sink to the bottom. Now reel it just a bit to get the weight off the bottom and slowly reel the line to the boat. When the weight is directly straight down from tip of the rod. We want to position out the line 3-5 feet off the bottom and just let it drift freely. Now we wait for that big one.

Cut And Live Bait Flathead Catfish Fishing Tips

  •      Using cut or live bait is seasonal with bait itself, When the skip jack are running in the spring, run skip jack. Late in the winter the shad are running, use shad. If the fish are not biting on one, use the other. With skip jack bait the Flathead catfish tend to go for the heads. Hook the skip jack in the nostril and out the other nostril for cut bait.
  •      The risk of using live bait is that the bait will swim into and around cover. This tangles the line.
  •      Now there are many methods to rig live bait. Here is a few ways to rig live bait.
  •      Take the hook through the bottom of the mouth right up to the nose. The hook will swivel left and right. Now for cut bait, we can hook into the head of the shad the same way as the live shad. With the belly gut pieces, just hook it through the guts and out through the belly. The reasoning being the belly is strong where the ribs are and don’t tear as much.

We May Consider This Two Hook RigDouble hook rig

  •      If the bites are slow, we may consider running two hooks on one leader line about 2 feet apart. With the weight on the bottom of the leader. Now we suspend the line, we do not drag it. The cut bait we use we cut into smaller sizes of bait, when running this type of leader. Now the hook size we downsize one size hook on this leader as well. The cut bait needs to be fresh.

Setting Up A Single Hook Leader LineSingle hook leader

  •      We use 40 pounds mono line with a 3 way swivel, which helps to get unstuck in brush. Attach a quick snap to hold the weight. Here is a Flathead catfish fishing tips. We tie our hook with a No Snail Knot.
  •      To tie a No Snail knot we take our leader line and feed the line through the front of the eyelet. And feed the line to the end of the shank. Hold the line with your finger and wrap the line around the shank 7-9 times. Then take the other side of the leader and put it through the back to the front eyelet and pull the line tight. By tying the No Snail knot this way gives the trigger effect to go forward for the hook to set.
  •      Our leader line can be 12-18 inches long with 50 pound line. We tie it on the 3 way swivel attached to the main line.A Flathead catfish fishing tips is to have the weight and the main line together. When pulling the rod up, our chances are good to be getting the weight over and out of the brush.

Catching Our Own Bait

    •      Now if we are going to catch our own bait, here is how we do it. For the cast net, we look for a true 6 panel design with a pound per foot. Learning how to throw one is the key to catching shad bait.
    •      To catch our skip jack we use a rod and reel. The best way to catch skip jack is tying a series of crappie flies or grubs onto a line. We can go with three to a line. We can pick from 2-6 crappie flies or grubs on the line. Basically we are making our own cebiche style rig.Crappie jigs
    •      We can use different colors if we choose. The best main colors are chartreuse and white. Now the skip jack may go after other colors on some days. And other colors on other days. Sometimes we may reel fast and twitch them and other days we may reel them slow.
    •      Now we carry another rod and reel set too. This one has a Foley spoon with a one ounce weight up above the Foley spoon. The Foley spoon has weight and it is a little single hook spoon. This set up works really good at certain times of the year.

Deep Waters

  •      When fishing deep waters we reel the fish up slow to decompress the fish. On catch and release if we reel the fish up fast, when putting the fish back in the water, the fish will stay afloat on top of the water and die. This is a new Flathead catfish fishing tips that I had not thought of.

I hope you have been able to take away some techniques.

You Can Use Plastic Worms Fishing For Bass More Than You Think

  •      We are going to be looking into plastic worm fishing for bass. There will be some plastic worms that work well in warm temperatures, And there will be some plastic worms that work well in all seasons with a few adjustments. Sometimes these plastic worms work better than live worms. The combination of color, weight, hook and plastic worm is the winner to catching that big bass.

The Brands Of Plastic WormsShaky Head Rig

  •      This method is the Shakey Head worm. Now some anglers say the straight tail plastic worms work better. The popular brands used are Net Bait; Zoom and Strike King. The difference between the brands are size and color.
  •      We use the Strike King 8 inch and 10 inch bait worms and the Fat Baby Finesse worm,In Zoom, we use the Magnum Trick worm, Regular Trick worm, the Magnum worm and Regular Swamp Crawler. In Net Bait and the Zoom Trick worm are basically the same The Net Bait has a flatter head to fit on the screw lock better. Now here we have plastic worm fishing for bass.

In The Colors

  •      We will use light colored natural worms or dark worms. For dark worms we go with colors like e June Bug black or black blue. The natural colors we go with Plums, Green Pumpkin or Watermelon. We keep it simple when picking out the colors.
  •      Now when fishing in the summer, fish tend to be aggressive. The water temperature is warm. In the summer the fish go after the bait. They tend to not be so cautious. We can always fish our plastic worms aggressively all the time if we like. These are plastic worm fishing for bass.

Three Hook Sizes

  •      Here are three hook’s to use. A Canterbury Shakey Jig Head. This hook is good for a Trick worm or a Swamp Crawler or a Fat Baby Finesse. Next is the Magnum Stand Up Jig Head. hook. This is just a beefier hook. Then for the heavier worms like the Bull worms or the Magnum Trick worm We will use a Strike King Mag Head.
  •      All three of these hook’s comes with a screw locks. This is a big plus with the hook. Now we have three different head designs, three different hook’s but all similar. Each one just gets larger to adjust to the different worms. This is plastic worm fishing for bass.

Here Is How We Do Plastic Worm Fishing For Bass

  •      All of these add up to being simple We are just adjusting sizes. If we are catching a lot of fish, we go bigger. And the same goes if we want to catch bigger fish, we go bigger.
  •      By going with bigger worms, it will pass the smaller fish on by, there for attracting bigger fish
  •      We focus around shallow rock when fishing. In warm temperatures we will find lots of fish on the shallow rock. To fish it we drag the bottom, pulling the line, then reeling up the slack and repeat. Or shake it, then let it sit and reel up the slack and repeat. Or fish it full on, double rip and reel up the slack and repeat. On this fishing method we up size the worm and go heavier weights and a heavier head weight as well.
  • If you want to be better at bass fishing , look into this...Pro bass fishing training manual…

Plastic Worms We Can Fish In All SeasonsDrop Shot

  •      Now here we are going to look into soft plastic worm fishing for bass anytime of the year. Here is the Drop Shot. It is hook above the line down to the weight. The hook down to the weight is called the : Tag On : that line being 10 to 15 inches. The Tag is 10 to 15 inches, depending on the season, we adjust that length. Our best weight to go with is a 3/16 once stick weight. We can run from a 4 pound to 12 pound line on a spinning rod. Our best to use for strength is a 6 pound to 8 pound line.
  •      Our best hook’s to go with is a 1 ott mosquito hook. When we run a thinner hook diameter, with a smaller hook, it puts pressure to reel the fish up And it will tear a bigger hole in the mouth and we lose the fish.
  •      Now when fishing the drop shot, we drag it. Keep the tip of the rod up to keep the nose of the worm up. Pull the tip of the rod towards us, then reel up the slack. DON’T bounce the rig.
  •      The Zoom Trick worm is going to work best on the Drop Shot

The Wacky RigWacky Rig

  •      The Wacky Rig works best with the Zoom Trick worm. We can use a ” Senko Style ” worm. Now the Senko Style may get us bigger fish but it is heavier and falls faster. It gets more distance and casts into the wind.
  •      The Zoom Trick worm drops slower with neutral buoyancy. It is lighter and will hang in the strike zone with more bites. Using the 1 ott mosquito hook with an 8 pound line. We fish the Wacky Rig on slack line and let it fall to the bottom. We can even leave the bail open. Reel it in to set the hook.

The Texas RigTexas Rig

  •      Now for the Texas Rig weight worm. For color anything with a red flake or green pumpkin will get the bite. We can use a 3 ott or a 4 ott. Worm hook with 8 pound line.
  •      We fish it into heavy cover without snagging it. Fish this Texas Rig with the rig falling going to the bottom with slack. This is how to catch the fish on this rig. “Leave Slack In The Line”!!!.

The Ned RigNed Rig Fishing

  •      With the Ned Rig we use a 3/16 ounce weight ball head with a 1 ott hook. Dragging a ball head jig on the bottom gives the worm action as it bumps things. A Ned Rig with a floating worm will give it the action to catch the fish. We can use a 2 to 5 inch worm.

See How Versatile The Plastic Worm Can Be Used

  •      All of these methods can be used for plastic worm fishing for bass. We have some methods for warm temperatures. And we have some methods for year round. It sounds like it would worth having some plastic worms and accessories handy in the tackle.
